The adventurously awesome travel blog of a woman, her dog, and a punk cat.

nomadic travel, photography, insights along the way

The year of letting go….

I recently gave up everything to start on an amazing adventure. I will be and traveling in a truck camper with my camera and photo blogging my way across the U.S. and Canada. I am a budding landscape  photographer, so I am looking forward to photographing and sharing my journey. My travel companions are my dog, Buddy and my little punk cat, Phoenix.Buddy hat 1 camp phoenix

Both Buddy and Phoenix travel very well, so it should be a lot of fun for them. One of my first long-term stops will be Vancouver, B.C. I hope to spend about a month there, so there will be lots of photos I’m sure.  I will be posting pics of stops along the way, so be sure to check back often.

I am nomadic at heart, and I have wanted to do this for sometime. In 2015 the forces came together that gave me the resources, and the push I needed to do this, but more on that later…. Today I put a deposit down on a camper, so hopefully within a week or so I will be on my way! When I think about this venture, it brings up a lot of thoughts and feelings, from pure bliss, to being completely terrified and thinking I made a huge mistake, this is just nothing more than normal anxiety, and it always passes. To quote the late and great Wayne Dyer ” there are no mistakes, only course corrections.”  If I need to correct I will, but I am moving forward confidently, and expecting an amazing journey to unfold before me. There are no guarantees in the safe path, your life can change in an instant, even if you are following the safe  secure path, so I might as well take a chance on the path that is wide open and calling my name.

This past year has been a year of change and loss all leading up to this decision.  First, unexpectedly losing my Mother, I don’t know if you ever fully recover from losing your mom, it’s a tough loss. In a strange way,  her loss gave me the push that I needed to do this. No one is promised tomorrow, so now for the first time ever, I am living my life on my terms. I know she is on the other side cheering me on; the way she always did when she was here. Second, letting go of a business that I built, and was proud to have run since 2006.  In the process of closing the business I had to say goodbye to many wonderful clients. I don’t regret my decision for second, it was simply time for me to move on to my next adventure, but it was much harder to say goodbye then I anticipated. I will miss them all dearly, but I truly hope I will cross paths with them again. Last, but not least saying goodbye to friends and family ugh…heartstrings… all I can say is goodbyes suck, but they open the door to the new beginning, and I am so ready for that . I’d like to finish this post  this post with my favorite poem by by David Whyte.

The Journey, by David Whyte

Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again

painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.

Sometimes everything
has to be
inscribed across
the heavens

so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.

Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

small, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.

Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out

someone has written
something new
in the ashes of your life.

You are not leaving
even as the light fades quickly now
you are arriving

This is such a great poem! I know this journey will change you in ways you can’t even imagine right now. So proud of you and excited for you and, admittedly, even a bit envious. I think we all yearn for freedom in this life full of bustle and responsibility, thinking we’ll have all the time in the world to spread our wings “later”. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you on the road somewhere…
